International Leader on Migrant Health Visits DKU

Dr. Davide Mosca, the Director of Migration Health at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva, Switzerland, visited Duke Kunshan University (DKU) on September 9th and 10th. Invited by at Professor Alba Amaya-Burns, associate professor of global health at DKU, Dr. Mosca held a seminar on the topic of ‘Lest Behind or Left Out? Promoting the Well-Being of Left-behind Families of Labor Migrants: Evidence for Policy and Action’. He also delivered a lecture to all graduate students of DKU’s global health program in Dr. Amaya-Burns’ Migration and Global Health class. The lecture was titled ‘Global Trends in Migration and Health’. During his visit, Dr. Mosca also met with Chancellor Liu and DKU leadership team, and discussed future partnership with IOM in research, internships for students, and training IOM members on global health challenges.

Dr. Mosca manages a 130 million annual portfolio addressing global migrant health programs, out of USD$1.6 billion that IOM invests annually in crosscutting humanitarian projects such as migrants resettlement, movement, development, emergency and post-crisis activities, and research. He is also a member of several leading global health committees. During the current global humanitarian crisis affecting 1 billion migrants, in all continents, Dr. Mosca’s visit provided students, staff, and faculty with first-hand information, experience, and opportunities for building partnerships with a leading international organization such as IOM.
