Duke Kunshan University honored 455 graduates at its 2026 commencement May 15 in DKU Square, celebrating 327 undergraduates and 128 master’s students. The
outdoor ceremony brought together graduates, families, faculty, staff, university leaders and supporters, many of whom traveled long distances to celebrate the

Two DKU students win Yenching scholarships to study at Peking University
Two students from DKU’s Class of 2026 have received scholarships to study at the prestigious Yenching Academy of Peking University. Dalia Guerrero Flores, a
global China studies major from Mexico, and Felipe Rebello Silvestri, a political economy major from Brazil, will pursue master’s degrees in China studies, with
a concentration in politics and international relations.

Duke-DKU workshop: climate governance and transition pathways in an uncertain era
On May 7, 2026, the Duke-DKU Workshop “Climate Governance and Transition Pathways in an Uncertain Era” was successfully held at Duke University. Jointly
organized by the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability at Duke University and the International Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP)
program at DKU, the event brought together over 20 experts and scholars from both institutions. Participants discussed key issues in global climate governance,
including biodiversity conservation, energy and climate finance innovation, forest and land-use transitions, and ecosystem governance and public policy.

Prof. Nellie Chu’s recently published book on migrant bosses, fast fashion, and the paradoxes of entrepreneurship in Guangzhou
Nellie Chu, associate professor of anthropology and cluster lead for the Cluster for Gender and Global China at the Center for the Study of Contemporary China,
spent years embedded in Guangzhou’s fast fashion industry — one of the world’s most dynamic hubs of transnational commodity production. Her recently published
book, Precarious Accumulation: Fast Fashion Bosses in Transnational Guangzhou, tells the story of rural Chinese migrants, West African and South Korean traders
who navigate the high-speed, low-margin world of just-in-time garment production.

DKU Language and Culture Center CSL team visits Xiamen University
From May 12 to 13, 2026, 15 faculty members from the Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) program at DKU's Language and Culture Center (LCC) traveled to Xiamen
for a two-day academic exchange visit, hosted by the Chinese International Education College/ Overseas Education College of Xiamen University (XMU). The visit
aimed to deepen mutual understanding between the two institutions in the field of international Chinese education and to promote the sharing of experience and
future collaboration.
