Undergraduate students in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan received the following message on email on Aug. 30, 2021.
Dear students,
I hope all is well. First, I want to thank you for your patience as we navigate extenuating circumstances related to the increase of Covid cases in recent weeks. We eagerly anticipate your arrival to campus and look forward to connecting with you! The start of this semester has not been ideal but I want to encourage you to remain optimistic and excited about what you will experience within and beyond the classroom this semester. I would like to update you on our fall semester plans to allow students to come on campus. All plans are based on the most recent directives from the Jiangsu Education Department (JED).
Arrival dates
Students can come to campus on September 19 – September 20, 2021 (subject to approval from government authorities).
- DKU will welcome first year and returning students in separate groups to minimize crowds, per Covid safety protocols. The check-in schedule is as follows:
- Visiting students and Class of 2025 can arrive between 10am and 4pm on September 19
- Class of 2022, 2023 and 2024 can arrive between 10am and 4pm on September 20
Parents, guardians, and relatives will not be allowed onto campus and off campus residential facilities.
University staff will be on hand to help students move their belongings into their designated residential facility.
Eligibility to Access Campus
Students must adhere to the following expectations in order to enter campus and off campus residential facilities. Students in Hong Kong, Taiwan of China, and Korea are now welcome to arrange their arrival to campus but must follow the Covid-19 prevention and control policies for international travel. International students should contact International Student Services at DKU-ISS@dukekunshan.edu.cn for assistance if necessary.
- Students must not have traveled to any city (or district of Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin or Chongqing) that contains a medium/high risk area after August 29. As of August 29 the cities are Yangzhou of Jiangsu, Pudong district and Songjiang district of Shanghai, Shangqiu of Henan, Jingmen of Hubei, Dehong of Yunnan).
- Students must have taken and passed a Covid-19 test within 48 hours of their arrival to campus.
- Students must have submitted a daily health report via the DKU health code system for 14 consecutive days from their arrival date.
- Reporting starts on September 5 for the Class of 2025
- Reporting starts on September 6 for the Class of 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Academics
In compliance with the JED’s Covid prevention mandates, all students, including those who are now on campus, are required to attend classes virtually starting on September 22. DKU will resume in-person teaching on October 11
DKU will issue a comprehensive guide on the arrangements for students by September 3. We expect students to check regularly for updates via their DKU email, the university website, and official DKU WeChat account.
