KUNSHAN — Nineteen distinguished business, civic and education leaders from around the world have been named founding members of the Duke Kunshan University (DKU) Advisory Board, a group that will provide strategic guidance to the new joint venture university in Kunshan, China.
Chaired by G. Richard Wagoner Jr., former chairman and chief executive officer of General Motors, the board will advise DKU Chancellor Liu Jingnan and Executive Vice Chancellor Mary Brown Bullock on a wide range of issues.
‘DKU was founded to provide innovative educational and research experiences that will help shape future generations of leaders,’ Liu said. ‘We are fortunate to have the support, guidance and advocacy of these leaders, and look forward to applying their insights and experiences to our new venture in Kunshan.’
“Speaking for all the advisory board members, we are thrilled to have the chance to be involved with this unique and innovative Chinese-American educational partnership,” said Wagoner, who helped establish DKU while serving as chair of the Duke University Board of Trustees from 2011 to 2013. “We are excited to support the important role that DKU will play in enhancing educational opportunities for students in China and from around the world, and preparing them to contribute to an ever more rapidly changing, interconnected world.”
‘I know first-hand how valuable the opportunity to learn in a global setting can be,’ said advisory board member Gao Xiqing, president of China Investment Corporation and a graduate of Duke Law School. ‘DKU represents a new level of educational opportunity and global enrichment for students from China and around the world, and I am honored to work with the other members of the advisory board to support DKU’s educational mission.’
The DKU Advisory Board will hold its first meeting in Beijing in spring 2014.
‘I am delighted to welcome this exceptional group of leaders to the DKU team,’ said Richard H.
