DKU dean awarded NAFSA award

NAFSA, the world’s largest nonprofit association of international educators, has honored Jessica Sandberg, dean of international enrollment management at Duke Kunshan University, with the 2024 Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Enrollment Management (IEM).

Currently, Sandberg chairs NAFSA’s International Enrollment Management Knowledge Community.

Sandberg joined Duke Kunshan in 2018 as the Dean of International Enrollment Management, leading the university’s international student recruitment, marketing, admissions, and financial aid initiatives. Before DKU, she served for six years as Temple University’s inaugural director of international admissions. She was recognized for developing the viral #YouAreWelcomeHere, a campaign and companion scholarship program to support and encourage students to study abroad. Her efforts earned her a place on the Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Influence List” in 2017 and Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of” list in 2018.

Sandberg holds advisory board roles with TOEFL, Intead, Times Higher Education, and IDP. In 2017, she served as editor of the book Guide to International Student Recruitment (3rd edition).

The NAFSA annual award recognizes members for their exemplary contributions to the field of IEM over a decade. Based in Washington, D.C., NAFSA supports its more than 10,000 members worldwide by fostering environments conducive to international education and promoting integrated international perspectives within higher education institutions.
