DKU appoints Jill Creighton as new student affairs leader

Duke Kunshan University has appointed Dr. Jill Creighton to oversee student affairs following the departure of Dr. Raphael Moffett.

Creighton will lead the range of services and programs dedicated to supporting and maximizing the student experience at Duke Kunshan when she joins the team in July.

She has enjoyed a stellar career in higher education, most recently as associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Washington State University (WSU).

“I am thrilled to join Duke Kunshan University and to become part of the fabric of DKU’s rich, global community of scholars and leaders,” Creighton said.

“I believe in the power and importance of the student experience, and it is an honor to succeed Dr. Moffett as the next student affairs leader.

“I look forward to building on his vision to usher DKU student affairs into the future.”

Prior to her leadership role at WSU, Creighton served as assistant dean of students for conduct and operations at the University of Oregon and held student affairs posts at New York University and the University of Colorado.

A champion for her profession, Creighton serves as a volunteer leader for NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and has founded, hosted and produced podcasts focused on her chosen field.

“I am extremely happy to welcome Jill Creighton to DKU,” said Scott MacEachern, vice chancellor for academic affairs at DKU.

“She brings great experience and vision to our student affairs effort, and I am really looking forward to working with her.”

Creighton received her bachelor of arts in music from Central Washington University and a master of education in college student services administration from Oregon State University. Her doctorate in public administration was awarded by West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

She will oversee the full range of integrated services to ensure students can access the support and opportunities they need to live successful personal and academic lives.

During his tenure, Moffett led the creation and development of activities, programs and policies across the spectrum of student services. His key achievements include creating the Student Union constitution and the Global Leadership Academy as well as conceptualizing the Pathways to Success Program.

Thanking the DKU community, he described serving the university as “an honor and a privilege”.

“My time at DKU has been one of the most gratifying professional experiences of my career,” Moffett added. “Leaving DKU is bittersweet because I’ve had the opportunity to work with tremendous staff, amazing students and brilliant faculty.”

Welcoming his successor, he added, “She comes to DKU with a wealth of knowledge in student affairs and is a student-centered administrator with a proven track record of serving students with intentionality and purpose.

“Rest assured, students are in very capable hands with Jill.”

The Office of Student Affairs provides a wide range of programs and services to reinforce and complement Duke Kunshan’s world-class academic offering.

Fully committed to supporting intellectual, social, and physical development, the university creates opportunities for students to explore their interests through cultural, educational, recreational, athletic and leadership activities, to name just a few.

In addition to the residential living experience and student support initiatives, students benefit from open and professional guidance, 65+ Student organizations, organized co-curricular activities and engagement with the Duke Kunshan family and surrounding communities.
